"The Fiji Islands program has been such an incredible experience. I have loved every minute of it- from the village experience, school kids and kava to the awesome island activities. Thanks so much for an experience I will never forget. I have made some great friendships with both villagers and volunteers. Good luck for future programs. I hope all of the volunteers can get the same fulfilment and enjoyment that I received."
Sarah McCrostie- Uni of Otago

"Welcoming village, more than friendly people, great program, great fun, satisfying and awesome experience!"
Ping Chen NG- University of Tasmania

"Seriously amazingly awesome! It may not have been as luxurious as what we are used to, but it didn’t matter at all- in fact it was way better than back at home. Living in the host families is the most heart warming experience, as is working at a school with all the kids around. All the leaders were amazing people and everyone makes everything fun. Everything that wasn’t perfect was due only to acts of god, but again it didn’t even bother me. Fiji is awesome!!"
Alan West- UNSW

"So amazing thanks so much for everything. Getting to know both sides of Fiji with the loveliest group of people. I will cherish these memories forever."
Anne- Maree Quamby- UTS

Gabrielle Simpson- University of Victoria, NZ

"My experience with VESA was amazing. The leaders made us feel like part of a big family. The stay with the host family was amazing, they made us part of their family and taught us all about their culture. I was really sad to leave them. The island part of the experience was fun and I became good friends with the other participants mainly in this part. Overall a great experience."
Ash Howes- University of Wollongong

"Volunteering in the village and living with a host family was a life changing experience. I can honestly say I don’t feel like a tourist in Fiji, I feel like I have a real family and have made dozens of friends. I have a real knowledge of family, love and true happiness that I learnt from the Fijian culture. VESA was definitely the best choice I made in 2010. I plan to visit my Fijian family in Nausori and want to volunteer in other countries with VESA program."
Julian Hamewood- James Cook University

"The whole experience was amazing. Staying in the village with our host families was unexpectedly the best part of the trip. The staff were awesome as well as all the others that helped out in the villages and on the island. Thanks heaps for everything. See you in South Africa!!"
Yasmin Lewis- UWS

"The Fiji VESA program was an amazing experience and I would strongly recommend this program to others. The staff were awesome, easy going, down to earth and very supportive and approachable and always seeked opportunities to crack a joke or lighten the conversation. Living with the villagers was the most fantastic experience of my life as you transcended from a tourist into part of a Fijian family and you are able to get so much more out of the experience as well as making lifelong friends with your new family. The second week of the trip was fantastic, as you got to relax with your new friends. Although the island adventure is amazing you soon begin to miss your Fijian family."
Matt Babbage- Charles Sturt University

"Absolutely loved it, such a brilliant experience. My only regret is not getting involved in first or second year uni so I could do some of the other programs too!"
Eva Sudbury- University of Melbourne

"Had an awesome experience, especially in the village. Felt amazing making a difference to the school. Felt amazing making a difference to the school. Loved staying with my host family. Honestly had the best time!"
Tina Domm- UWS

"The program was so much better than I expected. VESA gave me the opportunity to experience the Fijian lifestyle and to hear first hand from the people how our work has benefited them. All three of the co-ordinators were excellent and helpful at all times and greatly influenced my positive perception of the program. Thank you so much! This has been the best thing I have ever done."
Chelsea Manley- University of Sydney

"Had an AMAZING time! Shona, Rach & Andy were great leaders. Loved all the friends and memories made. Looking forward to the reunion...One in Malaysia maybe?"
Ann Jacob- Malaysia

"This is such a great organisation and just being a part of it would be a great privilege. Working with VESA has been an experience of a life time one that I will never forget. The part I have found most enjoyable was being in the village and being a part of their amazing community. I loved how everyone is so nice."
Naomi Rita Ratnasingh- UWS

"Amazing! The guides were fantastic, Islands beautiful and relaxing but best of all was the volunteer work in Nausori. My host family felt like family by the end. All in all, a very rewarding experience. Thanks for everything VESA! A once in a life time experience."
Amy Richards- ANU

"Had the most wonderful and rewarding experience/holiday of my life."
Kim Alrd- Griffith University

"My experience with VESA was one of the best experiences I have ever had. The knowledge of the country, the customs and the culture that I have gained has been unbelievable. Not one thing I could complain about."
Hollie Ramsay- UWS

"My experience with VESA has been well beyond my expectations. The stay in the village was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I will always remember my time in the village. The Yasawa Islands were also great."
Tim Fereday- UTS

"Absolutely loved it! There were bits that were rough, parts that I found difficult and parts I was incredibly daunted by- but this made it an exponentially more rewarding experience. Learnt so much about the Fijian culture and way of life. Personally though, the best part was making such incredible friendships- both on tour and within the family."
Monique Biady- University of Sydney

"My overall experience was very rewarding. I especially enjoyed our first week with our host family which really made me appreciate all the things I have at home and also allowed me to immerse myself in the Fijian culture which I wouldn’t have been able to do as a typical tourist. The staff were also great, Andy being hilarious and Luciana and Rachael being very friendly and supportive."
Thing Nguyen- Sydney University

"Vinaka Vakaleru for such a good time. I would love to come with VESA again however I wouldn’t go anywhere where tarantulas live! The Absourians were so lovely. I was able to see what real Fijians were like."
Rachael Reid- University of Tasmania

"I actually don’t have words to describe my experience. I did things in ever thought of doing (swimming with sharks!) and genuinely feel as though I have made a difference in the community. But, most of all I have friends for life and none of this would have been possible without VESA! Thank you for the experience of a lifetime it has been more than what I ever thought."
Hilary Matchett- Charles Sturt

"VESA= Amazing!! Very fulfilling knowing you have helped those less fortunate makes you sleep well at night! Meet so many lifelong friends. Like Contiki, but way better as you go through some tough, tough times together i.e. showering/toilet runs together (haha!) Awesome to work so hard volunteering and then are reward with the island hopping! Thanks guys."
Kelly Seidel-Charles Sturt

"It was an amazing experience and I enjoyed every minute of it. I will definitely be looking to join another program in the future."
Josephine Haley- Charles Sturt

"The people in the village were so friendly, they made us feel like a part of the community. Loved the shark snorkelling, pretty awesome but still I felt safe cause their so small. I’d definitely recommend trips to Fiji and look forward to other VESA trips."
Djuarli Taylor- Murdoch Uni

"The last 2 weeks have been the most amazing experience of my life! The team leaders were so helpful & fun, the host family were beautifully kind & Island hopping was fantastic! Swimming with the sharks was definitely unforgettable! Thank you so much to the team at VESA for everything!! Xox."
Caitlin Reynolds- Uni of Wollongong

"The time I had spent in Fiji was enjoyable and very friendly. Words alone can’t explain the feeling you get in helping those less fortunate than yourself. From being welcomed into a family with open arms and meeting your new brothers and sisters and your Fijian mother and Father to spending time around the village with all the kids. This is something that I will treasure in my mind for a very long time. The smile on the school kids faces as well as the parents, leaders and workers is unforgettable. This was the highlight of my VESA experience. The second week was fantastic, from relaxing on a pure white beach to completing the set activities. The activities were well thought out and organized. Never thought I would see myself swimming with sharks! I would recommend VESA to anyone, and would even consider doing the program in the near future. If everyone took the time to give back rather than receive the word would be a better place. Thanks to all the staff/people who organized the program. I take my hat off to you."
Joshua Meyers- Charles Sturt

"VESA has been the most awesome experience of volunteering work ever to embark on. The tour leaders effectively welcomed us in like family. Not only were the tour leaders down to earth about all matters, they mingled extremely well with our group which made the experience more fulfilling and pleasant to safely spend two weeks with. Rachel and Andy ROCKS!!"
Siosi Sadrata- UNSW

"Outstanding!! Life changing!! Happiness!! I was blown away by how humble the village people were. They took us into their homes and hearts like we were family. I was honoured to be treated as such and be a part of this amazing journey. The work we did in the school was magical and the look on the children’s faces made it all worthwhile and rewarding. The most important aspect I’m taking from this journey is to appreciate family and the simple pleasures in life. I thank Naitutu and its people for being real and bringing me back to ground. Rachael- I love her and have made an amazing new friend. Her fun loving nature was adored by all. Andy (AKA Kandi) was so funny and a great friend to all the crew! Thank you for accepting my application and fulfilling my dreams of helping others. I truly loved it and can’t wait to do it again, but this time as a LEADER! If you’re hiring I’m your girl! VESA=AWESOME!"
Patricia Cardoso- Edith Cowon University

"I had an absolutely AMAZING time!! Our tour leaders were FANTASTIC and quite entertaining. Fiji is a beautiful country which is full of kind and generous people. I had a great time in the village and will remember this trip for the rest of my life! I wish we could have stayed in the village for long. Words can honestly not explain how amazing it was there! My host family was so welcoming, friendly and took me as one of their own. I am proud to say this experience has opened my eyes and made me aware of how people with little possessions who are not controlled by consumerism can live what seems like a much more fulfilling life. I hope I am able to live such a life myself! Thank you VESA, Rachel Jess and Andy! You guys do such an amazing job and should be thanked! THANKS!"
Alice Hone- University of New England

"Changed my life- the volunteer work is the most rewarding experience and would do it all again, if given the chance. Experiencing the village life has given me a new respect for everything I have back in OZ. The families will always be in my life, the children & Fiji- Thankyou VESA for making me feel like a good human being, that has the ability to change peoples lives."
Kylie Hay- Griffith University

"Thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. The VESA leaders kept it real and provided us with endless opportunities to get involved and make the most of our time in Fiji. Would definitely recommend the program to anyone. Friends were made, stories were told and things were learnt. Nothing but good times with a great bunch of people. Appreciate the effort put into the program, it shows. Cheers!"
Kyle Saunders- Uni Tasmania

"The experience of Fiji has been another eye opening and rewarding time just like the Amazon! From the traditional cultural way of living, the welcoming home stays families, dancing, kava! Completion of volunteer work to help out the kid’s education to the island hopping adventures sunshine (very lucky!) and great friendships formed and a fun time couldn’t have asked for more. Must admit, came in thinking could compare the Amazon and Fiji but they are both totally different experiences. The Amazon being the most rewarding and fulfilling times ever! Thank you all and look forward to the next one- hopefully Africa! Vinuka vaka levu! Kate X."
Kate Connolly- Non student

"As a past participant (Amazon Dec 90) I was very excited to participate in the Fiji program. The Amazon experience was the most rewarding of my life and very quickly into the Fiji program I realised that the 2 programs could not be prepared against each other as they are totally different in their own right."
Rebecca Irving- Uni of Newcastle

"After the amazing time I had in Ecuador with VESA (Dec 09) I came into trip with high expectations but thought it would be pretty difficult to match. The village home stay was the definite highlight and leaving my new family was incredibly difficult-despite only being there 5 days. Before coming here I couldn’t really think of any way the Ecuador trip could have been better but home staying was unreal. The second Week Island hopping was a sweet way to relax and it was good to be able to do as little or as much as you wanted to. Overall I loved how different the 2 trips were and Fiji was an unreal experience I will never forget."
Sarah Bare- Uni of Adelaide

The hard work was great though because it's just so rewarding. Everything was so well organised and all staff involved were just perfect for the job! I was really impressed with the food too! "Thanks for providing one of my most enjoyable travel experiences ever! It was great to go beyond just visiting a country and really make a difference. It was great to be able to do the volunteer work and see progress in the village rather than just donating money which may not potentially be used in the community. I've made many new friends, some I'm I will stay in contact with for many years to come and we're already planning to visit each other and maybe do some more volunteer work together! Thanks again for such a fulfilling enjoyable, memorable and enriching experience and I would definitely do it again!"
